Assert Your Rights

Your Basic Rights can't help unless you assert them.

  1. to insist upon (rights, claims, etc.)
  2. to state to be true; declare categorically
  3. to put oneself forward in a firm manner

So which one sounds like you?

  • You walk away from a situation frustrated because you can’t find the right words to express what you’re feeling.
  • You’re always biting your tongue because your feelings are a little too raw and you’re afraid of being rude.
  • You’re troubled by confrontation so you just go with the flow to avoid a quarrel.
  • If you were a video game character, your name would be Atomic Hot Head—known for spewing out words you are destined to later regret.

Any one of those qualities makes it difficult to assert your Basic Rights.  But with a little planning -- plus a dose of diplomacy and self-control– you can stand your ground and live a life fueled by dignity and self-respect.
